Tallow, considered
Tallow is animal fat — but not all tallow is the same. The fat profile shifts with how the animal lived, what it ate, and how the fat was rendered.
We chose tallow not for tradition, but for what it does. Grass-fed beef tallow is one of the closest matches to the skin's own lipid profile.
The standards behind our tallow
Where the tallow comes from
One Norwegian farm. Vallumrød Gård in Vivestad. Grass-fed cattle, raised under Norwegian welfare standards. Frozen at source, delivered to our kitchen at -18°C.
How we render it
Slow-rendered for 2.5–3 hours over low heat. Filtered through stainless-steel mesh, then cheesecloth, then water-washed. The result: clean, mild, ready to formulate.
Why your skin recognises it
Tallow is rich in skin-identical lipids — fats your skin already produces and uses. They support barrier function without competing with the skin's own chemistry.

From farm to formulation
Most skincare uses plant-derived oils — argan, jojoba, squalane. They work, but they are foreign to the skin in a way tallow is not. The skin produces its own sebum from saturated and monounsaturated fats; grass-fed beef tallow shares roughly 50–55% of that profile.
That structural match means tallow is recognised by the skin and incorporated, not just absorbed. It supports the barrier — the layer that holds moisture in and keeps irritants out — by replenishing fats the skin uses to build it.
